I’ve of two minds when it comes to Mothers Day. Hallmark loves it. Florists love it. I’m just glad I won’t see all the commercials for another year.
Be that as it may… I wish all you wonderful Mothers out there the happiest of days. May you be recognized and honored for all that you do the rest of the 364 days of the year as well.
I’m taking an RWA provided class on setting up your self-publishing business. Better late than never, I always say. I felt I might have some holes in my understanding of the biz. Sure enough…I was right.
Sometimes you don’t want to be right. But, again, I say… better late than never.
I’m also reading a kick-ass book entitled The Kick-Ass Writer by Chuck Wendig. I love this guy. He doesn’t pull any punches and he dishes it all out with humor, to which I’m very susceptible.
Question: Why now, with six books under my belt and a seventh out this month? (Did you catch that? Champion of Entean’s gonna be out this month!) Answer: It’s the way I roll. For me to go deeper into my understanding of the self-publishing nuances, I had to have had some hands-on experience prior thereto.
I’ve always known I wanted to self-publish, ever since I presented a manuscript to Kensington Publications way back when…wow….probably about 25 years ago. Here’s the story. My husband was a book sales rep for them. He knew people. I’d written a suspense novel, a woman-in-jeapordy novel, a gothic-y thing. My husband asked one of his editor friends to have a look at my manuscript and let me know what she thought. She liked it but she told me it had to be in third person (I’d written it in first person as Mary Stewart had done) and that X had to happen by this page, followed by Y and Z by this and this page and it had to end by this page, etc…
In other words…rules and formulas.
I don’t do so well with the rules and formula thing.
Speaking of which, well, I wasn’t really speaking of this, but it always makes such a nice segue, don’t you think?
…as you all know, my blog is also a travelogue when I’m traveling. And now, I’ve a friend who just finished a fabulous trip to an area of the world I’ve never been–Croatia. I’ve asked her if she’d like to be a guest blogger and describe her experiences. She’s mulling it over. I’m crossing my fingers. If she mulls the way I’m hoping she’ll mull, you are all in for a treat. She’s enchantingly unique.
In the meantime…here’s some hype about my book,

the moon setting,
two eagles (thank you Humboldt Bay Eagles FaceBook Page!)

and my “boys” in action.

Have a great week, peeps!!
Croatia! I’ll cross my fingers, too.
Loved the pix of your boys wrestling, and trying to out-scary each other.
