And tomorrow we begin.
As of about three weeks ago, our plan was to drive back to Minnesota where we would hook up with an outfitter who would hand us a canoe, stick us on a pontoon plane, and plop us in the middle of Quetico Provential Park for 10 days of paddling. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided that she was into Winter Cozy and there is still ice on the lakes we were destined to travel. I like an occasional challenge, but my idea of adventure is NOT winter camping. I’m there with Mother Nature–I want my winters the cozy variety. So, we cancelled and will try again next year.
Plan B.
Because Mr.Al’s Mom needs to be moved into a new assisted living facility, we still need to head for Minnesota by month end. So we decided to find a cabin on a lake rather than doing the paddle/tent thing. We leave tomorrow, taking our time and enjoying the drive.
Got lots of audiobooks on my iPod.
Got lots of snacks.
Got Maggie, the GPS system.
Got AAA Tour Books. (I’ve had an AAA TourBook fetish since childhood.)
Got hotels booked using points.
Got the car’s oil changed.
Got a full tank of gas.
Got packed (mostly).
Got a house and pet sitter arriving today.
Got curiosity.
Gotta go.
Just heard that the ice is officially off the lake where our cabin is, and the temperature is on the rise. This is great news. Twelve days ago it was still snowing.
Stay tuned.
I used to adore those AAA tour books myself. Sounds like you’re fully equipped for a perfect vacation! I didn’t know that the original version of your vacation would have been so (to me) hair-raising. Shades of Never Cry Wolf! I like this one better.
< Written on my iPad, which has a mind of its own, and a VERY strange sense of humor!
Sounds wonderful! I look forward to your notes. I bet you’ll see lots of neat stuff there by the lake.
