Heading north on 101 shortly after the little town of Klamath is a turn off called Requa Road. The narrow road follows the Klamath river and then winds steeply up until you come to a parking lot with picnic tables and a view that goes on forever.
Take your binoculars, as this area is also the first of three feeding spots for the gray whales as they head north to Alaska on their 3000 mile migration from Baja Mexico.
I never did have a chance to see the whales migrate while I was there. Looks like I picked the wrong spots! Shoulda gone further north, apparently. Thanks for the nostalgic moment & great pix.
