I L O V E D teaching last Sunday’s workshop. Can’t wait to give the next one. Want to give lots and lots of them.
And so…marketing strategies are beginning to poke their little heads into my awareness.
To kinda, sorta quote Elizabeth Gilbert ( author of Eat, Pray, Love ) whatever endeavor you choose, you have to be willing to eat the Shit Sandwiches that come with it.
My shit sandwich has always been the same: The Marketing Sandwich.
I totally flopped at marketing my books, although the tsunami of indie authors probably hasn’t helped me much. And, if truth be told, I’m not willing to eat the Book Marketing Sandwich. I don’t really know how to take the first bite. “Here, buy my book, please? You’ll like it. Have it for free. What do you think? Write a review. I like honest ones. Just a review to prove someone’s read it would be good. But I’m not begging you or anything. But…please?”
See?
A total flop.
Took the joy right out of writing.
AND I STILL AM WRITING cuz that’s what writers do. I’m just not eating the marketing shit sandwich. And my writing is thanking me for it. I’m a pretty good writer, if I don’t say so myself, and I’ve got a kick-ass editor which helps me shine. Shout out to Demon for Details and Faith Freewoman.
However, I am willing to eat the Intentional Creativity TM Workshops Marketing Sandwich, even though it’s a big one.
A big submarine of a shit sandwich.
(Can you tell I’m liking this shit sandwich metaphor?)
Although my Color of Woman course offers a lot of support in that area, I know I will need extra help. And so…
I’m just beginning an 8-month program with a business coach. SHE will teach me how to munch my sandwich and like it, too. There’s a new way of marketing that really resonates with me. It’s more of a sharing of something of value so if the person wants more, they buy more. Like giving out free samples of ice cream so you can build your perfect cone.
Now, I’ve seen this way of marketing done poorly.
Greedily.
Dangling the carrot but never allowing you to have it until you sign up.
I don’t want to market that way. I want to give a valuable tool. Because that’s what I’m all about. That’s why I’m spending lots of money learning to teach Intentional Creativity TM and how to market it. So even if someone doesn’t want more of what I’ve got to offer, they don’t walk away empty handed.
Marketing with integrity.
Yep, that’s how I want to go about it.
Have a great week, peeps! I leave you with a picture of my most wonderful canine, Miki, fresh from the groomers and striking a pose.
Oh! Oh! And how could I forget? Before all this business marketing and more Color of Woman training lessons….Mr. Al and I are taking a week-long cruise up to Alaska.
We leave a week from today. Happy Mother’s Day to me!!
Miki sure is lookin’ good! Check your email re shit sandwiches and how to make them palatable.
Roger that.
