Not a bad day today. This is a picture of me, happily driving my fabulous car that I love driving. Mr. Al was navigator as his broken hand was ouchie.
We arrived in Reno close to Happy Hour, of which I will happily partake as soon as I’ve finished my narration thus far. It’s going to be a short narration. I’m thirsty.
Last year’s road trip cry was “Eazy Peazy.” We sought the eaze and the peaze, and we ran into a lot of it.
This year’s cry is “Fun and New.” We shall be seeking the fun and the new (to us.)
It’s hard to find the New on a road we’ve traveled many times before, although the drive from Eureka to Reno via 299 and then 44 through Susanville is, in my opinion, one of the prettiest stretches of road this time of year.
It goes right past Mt. Lassen Park, which is like Yellowstone Park without the tons of people…and moose…and bear ….and buffalo and Old Faithful, so it’s really not too much like Yellowstone after all. But, it’s got bubbling paint pots and a semi-sleeping volcano and lakes and lovely pine that smell so darned good; much better than those dangling scented pine trees you hang on your car’s review mirror.
We did stop for lunch at Panoramic Point. That was New.
However it was a panorama no longer.
Someone planted a ton of trees that will be harvested in 2143. I know this, because there was a plaque telling me so. Perhaps that’s when the panorama will return. Not sure I’ll be around to view it. Ah well….
Tomorrow we will be heading to Elko, NV. Trip Advisor says there are 6 things to do there. As it’s a four hour drive from here, Reno, to there, Elko, perhaps we can cover all six.
Stay tuned…
