(Disclaimer…doin’ a little Soap-Box-Pep-Talk-Thing to go with your coffee this morning…these will be few and far between.)
So you’ve made a really fabulous casserole with all sorts of crusty cheese on top. And now you’ve got a really messy casserole dish to clean up. What do you do?
Easy….
You clean it up the way it works best for you.
Some people get out their scrubbies and elbow grease and work away with it right then and there. Others let it soak overnight and tackle it then. Still others let it soak a couple of days with soap in it and work it later. Some let it sit until it’s needed again and then clean it.
Whatever works is the way it works.
I always thought Core Beliefs were what made up your Code-To-Live-By that is consciously created and tweaked throughout a lifetime. However, it’s now my understanding (so we’re all on the same page, here) that Core Beliefs are what you took on as a child to survive…what you learned so you could fit in and survive in your immediate surroundings. I suppose they could be called your Subconscious Code To Live By. Or, you could call them Habits Of Behavior that you’ve done so repeatedly, you just don’t think about them anymore.
Good enough. If you want a better definition, there’s a whole mess of definitions out there. Just Google “Define Core Beliefs” and there you go.
Anyway, you took on these beliefs so you could survive, and I must say you’re doing a great job. You are surviving! So, YAY!
But what if you’re not surviving to your liking?
Well then, it seems to me, you would simply change the habits that created the beliefs that have put you where you are today.
You change your beliefs that it “always turns out this way for me” when you want how it’s always turning out that way for you to stop. It’s always turning out that way for you because that’s what you are in the habit of thinking and expecting.
Good news! Habits can be broken. Your thinks can be re-thunk.
It’s like that casserole pan. Think of your belief–your definition of how the world works for you–as a casserole pan. Up until now, you’ve cooked a pretty good casserole (you’re surviving, right?) but now you want to clean up your pan and cook a different one.
How?
How do you want to?
There are many, many, many ways. In fact, I’ll wager that there are just as many ways as there are individuals. You can read books, you can talk to friends (I actually whine, something I’m not too proud of), you can get professional help ( kinda whine then, too), you can pray (ummm….yeah…working on it), you can study someone you consider successful and emulate their methods (like someone who doesn’t whine as much), and so forth…
Many ways.
THE KEY, however, is to pick a way that feels right for you IN THE MOMENT.
If it works, great.
If not, pick another one.
You know how to tweak yourself.
You are not broken and you do not have to be fixed.
You just have to fine tune.
Your belief that it always-turns-out-like-that-for-me is just an App that you’ve downloaded and now it needs an update to work better for you. Or, maybe it’s an App you don’t even need anymore. Maybe there’s a better App. Maybe you want to go to a store, get some advice, or research which App would work better for you now that you want to change how things are turning out for you.
But it all begins with you and how you want to deal.
It’s your life and you’re the one who gets to choose how you want to live it.
Most importantly, please remember to have fun.
Put on music and dance while you’re scrubbing that pan.
You’re okay.
Here’s a really cool picture of what Mt. Everest looks like from outer space…Wow, huh?
