The morning was so calm and beautiful.

After a quick cuppa, we spent the morning fishing and trolling.

Saw lots of fish, but they didn’t really like the gadgets and gizmos we presented them.  We both got strikes on rubber worm things, but couldn’t set the hook. Next time, we will be buying real worms, and I, for one, may not fish with barbless hooks.  Just sayin’.

What to do when you’re not catching fish:

1)  Look at wild life:

2)  Look at the lake bottom–the weeds and the shafts of light filling through….deep aquas and greens.    As the lake got more shallow, the bottom looked like the inside of a pre-carved pumpkin, only not so orange and with weird bladder things instead of seeds.

What the hell is this?

3)     Become  infatuated with the squeaking frogs (no photos, alas….)  The frogs squeak and then hop.  You can really get a chorus going when you get into the shallow water by the lake banks.     Squeak/Hop      Squeak/Hop    Squeak/Hop         Times 500.         Very fun.    When we were fishing yesterday, I watched a family trying to catch said frogs.  Their Jack Russell terrier was having a blast hopping after the hoppers.

Also, last night was lively with “critterspeak,” owls and foxes specifically.  Perhaps it was the moon or maybe the lack of wind.  Whatever the reason, they were chatty.  And this morning,the bald eagle was equally chatty, crying out to his mate and scolding ravens.

We played around in the water until around 1:00, then packed up and came home just in time to pick up our dogs.

And now? –all cleaned up, me with a cat on my lap and our two dogs asleep in their spots in the den.

In a week, we are on another adventure.  Going to spend two weeks up in Whistler, BC…. Not quite as rustic as tent camping, but we are planning on lots of fishing and exploring.
