About 30 miles north of Moab is a beautiful little canyon containing some of the most impressive rock art we have seen. The panels contain three different styles of art…Barrier, Fremont, and Ute. Age wise, Google informed me of the following: Barrier style are the oldest, dating back to 2000 BCE, while the Ute style are the most recent, dating back to 1300-1600 CE. It amazes me how long this rock art has been around. And I will need to do more research as to which rock art belongs to which artists. What I do know is the Fremont like triangular people and the Ute like to depict animals and hunting.

We spent a long while in the canyon because it was such a peaceful place. Hot, but peaceful. I need a lot of water on these excursions and am grateful for our air conditioned car. Mr. Al found a sweet little cul-de-sac in the shade, with beautiful features to contemplate and cool down a bit….a place you wouldn’t want to be in the rain, but perfect on a hot day.

This is the first panel off the parking lot. It is far and high. I climbed up to capture this view. If you feel like climbing, be respectful of the art and don’t get too close or touch it. These are people’s stories and history. They have already been defaced enough.
