This tree, taken by the National Geographic folks, is 3200 years old. It had already been alive 1200 years when Jesus walked the Earth. It lives in Sequoia National Park in Southeastern California, or thereabouts. It’s been named “The President.”

Not really sure if that’s the name I would have chosen for it.

Or what it calls itself.

I met it once when I was younger than today. Although I couldn’t fathom its height, I could understand its magnificence.

Man-o-man I love these trees.

Having lived with them for nearly 20 years and now away from them for nearly 20 months, I gotta say I miss them. Dreadfully. Not that I’m not meeting and appreciating new tree friends: the cottonwood, ash, cedar and fir.

But there’s something about a redwood, the Sequoiadendron giganteum.
