Up front, I used my iPhone for pics, so I need to wait until they hit my Cloud to post them. I.E…..I owe you peeps some pics. Beautiful day!
Fishing class was fun! Probably because Mr. Al and I are better than the others, so we felt kinda cool, I’ll admit it. Hey, I can cast. I just can’t catch. Catching comes tomorrow. I’m sure that tomorrow all the others will surpass me, so yeah, I’m taking my day in the sun. Mr. Al? Probably not, despite his broken hand handicap. But moi? Yep. However, having fished some last year, things were starting to fit together for me today. I began to get a sense of things. I’m liking the fishing thang.
Something I didn’t know….two things, actually, that I wanted to pass along.
Thing one: When you catch and release your fish, make sure your hand is wet when you touch the fish. Otherwise, you take all its protective slime away from it and fishy will die, thus defeating the whole catch/release scenario. Our teacher, Jeff, said he sees lots of departed fish bodies with slime less handprints–handprints that caused death-to-fish. Death prints. Okay….I think I got the point across.
Thing two: fluorocarbon monofilament fishing line. It’s invisible and being marketed because it is invisible, the fish will see only the fly. HOWEVER, fluorocarbon monofilament NEVER decomposes and it’s the fly that the fish reacts to, not the fishing line. Mr. Fish could care less if it can see line or not. It’s a fish, okay? It has a teeny tiny brain and it reacts. So, it’s going to react to how the fly is presented to it. Does the fly look alive or dead? If a fly acts alive on a visible line, it’s gonna bite. If the fly acts dead on an invisible line, it’s not gonna bite. Moral of the story? Don’t put out the big bucks for something that only hurts the environment, BADLY hurts the environment.
Class was all day. We came back to our Avon digs, organized someone to fix our poor car’s windshield (stone ouched it) and then went to dinner. Lots of eateries within walking distance….nice. Tonight, we ate at the Blue Plate. YUM! Trout! YUM! Mr. Al had crispy duck. YUM!
Tomorrow, more schoolin’ Hopefully pics?
Pix! Yes!! And even tho you released *your* fishies you still got to eat one. Glad you mentioned the fishing line problem. That’s a new one for me.
