Okay, I wrote a whole long rant to post and then deleted it all….
“Wait a minute,” I told myself. “What do you think you’re doing? This is NOT the tone you want to set for all those Sunday morning readers! Geez! Not at all!!!! Furthermore, neither do you want to get worked up writing your snit. So, Self, delete and begin again….”
Sometimes, I give myself good advice. I feel much better not snitting.
“Thank you, Self.”
“You are quite welcome, Self.”
Last night, whilst taking the puppy out for her before-bed-potty-break, we ran across Blur, one of the kitties who owns me. Only, I couldn’t see Blur, and the puppy seemed confused as well. She was scenting the air and looking wildly about, as only a puppy in its ADD MODE can.
What I saw was a shadow gliding through the shadows that was casting its own shadow. It was pretty trippy. That cat is so good at skulking in the shadows, no wonder he comes back some mornings after an All Night Hunt, sleepy and satiated. And no wonder there are lots of rat, mice and shrew bits lying around.
That’s not a pretty image.
Sorry about that.
We do not leave them laying around, just so you know. They get scooped up and thrown out pretty darn fast.
I think my two cats get the puppy in ADD MODE on purpose just to watch her get goofy and distracted.
Here’s a picture of the puppy looking like a little angel, prior to an ADD MODE:
And here is a Post ADD MODE photograph (I apologize for the quality of the shot. That black lump is the puppy. She’d worn herself out.):
Another game the cats like to play with the puppy is to allow themselves to get chased. You can tell. They run just fast enough to lead the puppy on a merry chase. I’ve seen them run flat out. I know how fast they can go when called upon. No, they’re enjoying it, their tails are up.
Here is a picture of Pip waiting to be discovered so that the chase games can begin:
If he appears grumpy, sitting on the fence post, it’s because he is. The puppy would rather check out deer droppings than try and get him off the fence post.
They enjoy the chase and they enjoy hearing me shouting at the puppy to “Don’t Chase the Kitties” and to “Leave the Kitties Alone,” two commands that the puppy should know by now. I’m sure she does, if truth be told. In ADD MODE she listens to nobody, no way, no how. (Do people even say that anymore? Am I dating myself? I talk to myself, perhaps I’m dating myself as well. What does my family think about that? My husband? I think it should just be our little secret. I’ll tell myself not to mention anything to anybody. No way, no how.)
Here’s a picture of Blur coming home after one of his hunts: (Notice the wet pavement…I should imagine rain more often, eh?)
I think that’s about enough for one Sunday, don’t you? Have a great one, peeps! Enjoy the SuperBowl commercials!
LOL! Fun. My dogs have always found chase-the-kitty to be both fun and extremely frustrating…since, like Pip and Blur, our cats have always know just how fast to run to keep the tease going, or just where to sit that puts them outside fence collar range. Naughty cats! Happy dogs!
