What I loved most about our whirlwind visit to the islands was what they did to our fellow travelers and, truth be told,to us. We all got a little softer, a little more natural. I saw flowers in hair, leis, hawaiian shirts, lovely little skirts, sandals, flip-flops and relaxed smiles. The whole ship had let go of the breath it had been holding in one grand Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. And that gift stayed with us all the way home.
If you want to visit Hawaii, four pit-stops from a cruise ship is NOT going to cut it. If you take a cruise to Hawaii, it better be for the love of cruising and not for the destination. You do a disservice to this lovely paradise to think otherwise. In fact, Mr. Al and I have already booked a week on the Big Island and a week on Maui for next October. Yup…..and that is not going to be nearly enough time, I can tell you that.
So here are my 1000 words for our visit to the Big Island. We did not take an excursion…rather, we just chilled, soaking up Island Time with the warmth. Boring, us….but that’s what we needed. More Spa time…and a lovely dessert (see below for major cute and yum factor). I ordered this dessert more than once. Yes….I do love wallowing around in desserts, that I do! What can I say? I love sweet things! And I adore all-things-hearts.
