This was cheating….but what a lovely spot we found in which to cheat! And why, pray tell, is it cheating? Well, we car camped…shoved all our stuff in the car, cooler as well, and hauled our boat and ourselves 2 hours into the Trinity Alps to Fish Lake.
Big Foot Country. Yup. True Fact.
But we only saw a little bear as we were leaving. He had pooped in the middle of the road….so, no, bears do not necessarily poop in the woods. Actually, we saw the poop before the bear. It was rather a colorful display of what a bear doesn’t digest when feasting upon huckleberries. Running away from the poop and, most likely, our vehicle, was the cute little cuddles. I’d say he was a yearling and not a cub-ling. Young bears run all roly-poly. It roly-polyed up a steep embankment and into the forest.
Before I had a chance to photograph it, dag nabit!
We arrived around 2:00pm, pitched our tent, and were on the lake by 3:00pm. Stayed there until well after dark (split a sandwich and ate trail mix for dinner). Watched the sun set and the stars come out. New moon, no moon…so the stars had the sky all to themselves and it was magnificent.
Magnificent.
Spent the next day on the lake as well, although I didn’t fish as much. Did you know it is possible to get a blister from fishing? No? Then, I was probably doing it wrong. I’m not the best fisher person. I just like being on the boat. Wow, it felt so good seeing all our stuff that doesn’t come out unless we are camping. It felt so familiar–like home– and brought back so many memories.
We can’t wait to make more…..going to get planning soon on another several day canoe adventure.
Here come the pics:
This was SO sweet! You going to put that hilarious suggestion to improve your balance using Photoshop on the blog? Think you should! It’s so cute.
