EXPLORING THE MAGICAL AND THE MUNDANE

Today, we will reach Moab via a stop at nine mile canyon to admire the Rock Art. Thought I’d jot down a few words as I wait for Mr. Al.

I think Hwy 12 in Washington is one of the prettiest ways to get over to the Tri City area of Western Washington. It is even prettier taking it from Western WA back to Eatonville because there are several gorgeous views of Mt. Rainier.

The harvest is on…In Washington, we saw lots of onion trucks. In Idaho, lots of potatoes. So many potatoes. I now have a hankering for a nice baked spud. The landscape is dry with sagebrush, cornfields, potato fields. Huge farms. Irrigation is a marvel.

In Idaho, we stopped off at the Hagerman Fossil Beds…which were temporarily shut down because of rain created landslides. We did check out the museum and learned about the little zebra-type horses that roamed around the area, along with saber toothed tigers, giant sloths, mastodons, beavers, and bunnies. Yes…beavers and bunnies have been living in this part of the world for a long time. Moral of the story: have lots of offspring to insure survival.

The Devil’s Washbowl was pretty spectacular. A deep gorge created by layers and layers of lava that oozed from hotspots. Al and I were trying to imagine what that landscape would have looked like. Black, smokey, fiery flowing rocks….much like the Big Island of Hawaii.

I loved seeing all of the happy sunflowers gracing the roadways.

Speaking of which….

Time to get on the road….
